Chasen Shreve called up, Luis Cessa sent down

There’s some bullpen movement for the Yankees, as the team announced Luis Cessa has been sent down while Chasen Shreve is called up to the majors.

Shreve, 25, is 1-1 this year with a 5.21 ERA but has battled injuries in his third big league season. Shreve has been rehabbing in Triple-A working on an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.

Last year, the lefty was a potent reliever for the Yankees in the middle innings. He finished the year 6-2 with a 3.09 ERA on his way to tossing over 58 innings as the seventh inning man to set up Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller.

Cessa,ย in his first year with the Yankees, appeared in six games out of the bullpen. In over 13 innings, the right-handed pitcher tossed to a 1-0 record with a 3.95 ERA.

Signed as an amateur free agent in 2008 by the New York Mets, Cessa logged 139 innings in five minor league seasons with theย Mets and Tigers. He was acquired in the Justin Wilson trade over this past offseason.

This year with Scranton Wilkes-Barre, the 24-year-old has thrown in 39 innings while owning a 2-1 record and 3.63 ERA.
