Derek Jeter: I don’t miss the game at all

Ladies and gentlemen, Derek Jeter has spoken!

In a 15 minute interview on the Players’ Tribune radio show on Sirius/XM, Jeter talks about everything from what he’s been up to since retirement, his thoughts on David Ortiz‘s controversial post on the Players’ Tribune and what lies ahead in life after baseball.

Jeter said he had to get away from everything for a bit, traveling to Japan and Australia amongst other places this past winter. He was noticeably absent from Opening Day, as Joe Torre was tasked with throwing out the first pitch. “I needed to get away from it for a while,” Jeter said. “I didn’t go to spring training; I was not even in Florida for most of spring training.”

Jeter misses the camaraderie with his teammates, but he doesn’t miss the grind. Understandable for someone who dedicated more than half of his life to the game. “To be honest with you, I don’t miss it at all. It was the right time for me. I’m content with what I’m doing now.”

Jeter did say that with all the number retirement ceremonies this season for his former teammates and friends, he should be in attendance at the Stadium.
