Derek Jeter “trying to learn” about owning MLB team

If you’re like us, you most likely miss Derek Jeter every second of every day. Well fret no longer my friends, we have some Captain related news for you on this fine Friday. While attending Joe Torre’s Safe at Home Foundation gala Thursday, Jeter said he is “trying to learn” about the possibility of one day owning a MLB team. However, nothing is imminent. “I’m not going to tell you. I’m trying to learn. There’s no news to be broken today,” Jeter said.

“You’re always learning, you know what I mean?” Jeter added. “But I needed to get away from the game, so I got away from the game for a while. I didn’t watch. This year, I saw a few more games than in the past. I still haven’t sat down and focused on watching baseball. I just needed a little break.”

His ultimate goal is to one day own a team, “but not right now,” he reiterated. The 42-year-old just got married in July and has been focusing on running The Players Tribune. “There’s other things going on in my life, so I had to focus on that,” he said.

While he may not be focusing on the game, he still knows what is going on in the Bronx and is enjoying the youth movement.

“The youth movement is fun to see,” Jeter said. “I live in Tampa, so while I was playing, I was there every offseason and you see these guys when the work out to get ready. It’s awesome they got the opportunity and they’re making the most of it. I don’t care how good you are, you still need the opportunity. Hopefully, they had a little taste of success and they continue it next season.”

So there you have it folks, straight from the horse’s goat’s mouth. It may not be happening in the near future, but he’ll be back.
