Garrett Jones is back in the Bronx!
After being designated for assignment on July 31 to make room for newly acquired Dustin Ackley, Jones returns to the Yankees to replace the injured Ackley. RHP Danny Burawa was designated for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster; Caleb Cotham was optioned to Scranton to make room on the 25-man.
As I hinted at last night, Garrett Jones is back w/ Yankees. He was outrighted and elected FA and re-signed with Yanks. Activated for tonite

Jones went unclaimed through the waiver wire and instead of being outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, elected free agency. Well five days later, he is back with the Bombers.
The Yankees believed Ackley brought more versatility to the team and therefore felt comfortable letting go of Jones. However, after three at-bats with his new team, Ackley was put on the disabled list with a herniated disk.
Jones hit .215 with five home runs in limited playing time his first time with the Yankees. He will once again back-up Mark Teixeira and be the Yankees fifth outfielder.
