Gary Sanchez recalled from SWB, Ben Gamel optioned

The New York Yankees have recalled catcher Gary Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  In a corresponding move, the Yankees optioned outfielder Ben Gamel to Scranton.

Sanchez has had a very good year for the RailRiders this season.  He is hitting .282 with 21 doubles, a triple, 10 home-runs, 50 RBI, and seven stolen bases.

On May 13, he has made his only appearance for with the Yankees this season.  In the game, he went 0-for-4 against the White Sox.

The call-up was reported yesterday by Joel Sherman of the New York Post.  In the post, he stated Sanchez is expected start as the Yankees‘ designated hitter tonight (Wednesday) with left-handed pitcher Steven Matz on the mound for the Mets.

Gamel was called up by the Yankees just two days ago, filling the void left by Carlos Beltran following his trade to the Texas Rangers.

He appeared as a pinch hitter for Adam Warren on Monday against the Mets.  Gamel hit a sacrifice bunt to move over Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira in the top of the 10th inning, leading to a Yankees victory.
