The Gleyber Torres framework has been established

With all of the major announcements previously made by Yankees skipper Joe Girardi regarding the Yankees Opening Day starters and final roster spots entering the season, one interesting tidbit may have somewhat slipped through the cracks.

The “Gleyber Rules” have been announced.

The Yankees have confirmed their framework for Gleyber Torres’ time in the minors. According to Yankees beat reporter Bryan Hoch, Torres will be on an eight-day rotation at Double A Trenton, playing three games at shortstop, two games at third base, and two games at second base every week before an off day.

Much had been speculated on whether or not Torres could possibly make the Opening Day roster after dominating the Arizona Fall League en route to earning MVP honors and then dominating Spring Training to earn the James P. Dawson Award as the most outstanding rookie in Yankees camp.

Girardi put some of those rumors to bed when the Yankees officially optioned Torres to minor league camp during Spring Training. However, the Torres-to-the-Bronx speculation still remains, as some believe he still has a chance to make it to the bigs by the end of the 2017 season.

“That’s hard to say. I really don’t know,” Torres said through an interpreter. “It’s not something that I pay attention to. I just want to enjoy the game and keep working hard.”

It appears clearer than ever, now that the plan has some actual structure to it, that Torres’ path to the bigs exists. Play well at both minor league levels, while gaining valuable experience at second and third base, and the call up will be imminent.

In the meantime, as Torres begins his journey through Double-A toward the major leagues, the top prospect is beginning another incredible journey in his young life as well, as the young shortstop got married on Tuesday.
