Granderson activated

The Yankees have officially announced that Curtis Granderson has been activated from the disabled list prior to tonight’s game with the Padres. Outfielder Melky Mesa was optioned to Triple A Scranton, and Thomas Neal was designated for assignment.

Granderson is making his first appearance since May 24th, when he broke a bone in his pinky that required surgery. He had only been back for eight games after missing the first month and a half with a broken bone in his forearm. On the season, Grandy is 7-for-28 with a homer and an RBI.

Granderson is in the lineup batting fifth and playing left field tonight. He should get regular time in the outfield once the Yankees return to American League parks, with Alfonso Soriano seeing time as the DH. Hopefully for Granderson this time around, he can stay healthy and avoid getting hit by pitches.
