According to GM Brian Cashman, Ivan Nova will pitch for the High-A Tampa Yankees on Monday at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
This is another step toward the Bronx for Nova. He threw an extended Spring Training game on Tuesday of this week, pitching three innings before rain pushed him to finish in the bull pen.
He has built up to 75 pitches so far, so look for that to be the benchmark in Monday’s game. He should build up to 90 in another start or two.
A pitcher’s rehab assignment can’t last more than 30 days, so the team obviously feels confident he can come back this month. He hasn’t had any set backs whatsoever, so he should be back in the rotation (that so desperately needs him) before July.
