Jacoby Ellsbury leaves game with apparent leg injury

UPDATE (10:24 p.m Saturday May 7th)ย

Jacoby Ellsbury left Friday’s 3-2 win vs. the Red Sox with a hip injury. The center fielder is now officially listed as day to day, and manager Joe Girardi hopes the speedster will avoid the disabled list.

“Right now there’s no plan to put him on the disabled list,” Girardi said via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.ย “Could that change? Of course it could change. But we expect it to be a few days, and hopefully he’s back.”

Ellsbury was reportedly “just sore”, and how his hip responds to further treatment will dictate his status moving forward.

The Yankees have seen the injuries pile up as of late, and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury left Friday night’s game with what appears to be an issue with hisย hip.

After leading the game off with a walk, the speedy center fielder stole second and third. After swiping third, he grabbed at his right leg. He scored on a Brian McCann RBI double, but quickly made his way to the clubhouse.

Aaron Hicks took over in center after starting the game in right field. Dustin Ackley entered the game off the bench, going to right field.

The Yankees have already placed CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez on the DL in recent days, and now Ellsbury left the game with a suspect hip, the same leg he had problems with last year.

According the the Yankees PR Department, Ellsbury left with a tight right hip and will undergo an MRI.

Ellsbury has had issues in the past with hip problems, and this is his fourth case in the last two-plus years.
