Jeter expected Sunday

Let’s try this again.

Jack Curry ย of the YES Network is reporting that 39-year-old shortstop Derek Jeter is expected to play tomorrow as long as he feels ok when he arrives to the Stadium. Jeter has said all week that if it were up to him, he’d be out on the field.

Jeter participated in a simulated game today at an undisclosed location, and obviously made it through without any setbacks. Starting in Texas, Jeter was seen taking ground balls at short and running sprints in the outfield, moving well overall. His presence in the lineup is much needed, especially since the Yankees were shutout today 1-0, as they fell to eight games behind the Rays in the AL East.

Jeter originally came back July 11 against the Royals, but could only play seven innings. He was pulled after experiencing discomfort in his quad, which was later diagnosed as a Grade 1 quad strain. After tomorrow’s game, the Yankees head out west for a two-city National league road trip – which obviously means no DH. Therefore, Jeter would have to play shortstop. The Yankees are likely to ease him back in this time to avoid another injury.
