Mark Teixeira could undergo more tests on leg injury

With the New York Yankees’ offense struggling mightily as of late, the team had hoped that first baseman Mark Teixeira‘s leg injury would heal quickly, allowing him to rejoin the everyday lineup to help get the offense moving. With Teixeira’s leg still bothering him, it appears as if the 35-year-old will undergo more tests to see if previous tests missed a more serious injury.

The switch-hitter has only appeared in two games since suffering the injury on August 17. As he made a pinch hitting appearance on Wednesday, Teixeria showed that the injury was still bugging him, as he was struggling to run to first base when he hit a routine ground ball to second base.

If Teixeira’s injury is more serious than anticipated, it could be a major blow for this Yankees team. As the team has failed to score five or more runs in each of their last nine games, the team really could use Teixeira’s power back in the middle of their lineup.

So far in 2015, Teixeira has a .255 batting average with 31 home runs and 79 RBIs in 111 games. With injury problems being a major problem for Teixeira throughout his career, Yankee fans were hopeful that this was the year that their talented first baseman would stay healthy for an entire season.

In the meantime, young prospect Gregory Bird will continue to start in place of Teixeira at first base. As the Yankees are still hopeful that Teixeira’s injury is not serious, it still leaves a huge cause of concern for this Yankees team as they fight for a playoff spot in the American League.
