Mark Teixeira exits game with apparent leg injury

Update: 8:50 pm

Meredith Marakovits reported on the YES Network that Teixeira left Friday night’s game with “right knee discomfort.” He was checked out by an Orioles team doctor, and will undergo an MRI. Stay tuned for more updates.

Mark Teixeira exited Friday night’s game against the Orioles after the top of the third third inning with an apparent leg injury. He was seen in the dugout talking to trainers while holding his right knee before he retreated to the clubhouse. Rob Refsnyder took over at first base in the bottom of the third, making his first big league appearance at the position.

Teixeira grounded out in the bottom of the second and appeared to run down the line with no issues. He also ran off the field after the Yankees turned a double play to end the bottom half of the inning.

The nightmare season continues for the 36-year-old who entered play tonight with a line of .181/.273/.265 with three homers and 12 RBI. Tex has also been dealing with ongoing neck issues, and received a cortisone shot on May 26 to help remedy the problem.

Stay tuned for updates as the Yankees make them available.
