Mitchell preparing to get back to Yanks

Bryan Mitchell was a victim of a scary ball to the face last week against the Minnesota Twins. After being placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list, Mitchell is making his way to the Bronx.

The right-hander threw a 30-pitch simulated game Tuesday and experienced no setbacks. The Yankees will gather and decide what to do next with Mitchell. A minor league rehab appearance seems to be coming soon.

Mitchell seems to have a spot in the bullpen once he is ready to return, according to manager Joe Girardi. The 24-year-old has done a solid job both in spot starts and in the bullpen for New York this season. In 10 games with the big league team he posted a 3.86 earned run average.

He can be a reliable weapon for Girardi down the stretch and come playoff time.
