Nova removed from rotation, moved to ‘pen

Ivan Nova‘s stint in the rotation after returning from injury did not last long as the right-hander will be moved out of the rotation and pushed to the bullpen. Adam Warren will slide into the rotation on a permanent basis.

This season, the 28-year-old has started 14 games and pitched to a 6-8 record with a 5.11 ERA in 75 2/3 innings. After returning from Tommy John surgery following the 2014 season, Nova was thought to solidify the starting five. He was never able to get back to form following the injury, and now he has a chance to excel in the bullpen with a limited role. The six year pro has started with the Yankees for his entire career owning a 45-30 record with a 4.31 ERA in 613 innings pitched.

With Nathan Eovaldi out for the remainder of the regular season, the Yankees rotation will feature Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Michael Pineda, and Warren. Warren has pitched well this season as a spot starter and in the bullpen, and Girardi has made the choice to give the reliable arm another chance at the rotation.

In the Yanks upcoming series vs. the Mets on Friday, the Yankees will send out Tanaka to pitch game one, with Pineda and Sabathia to follow and close out the series. Severino will start tonight as the Yankees look to take the final of a three game set with the Rays. First pitch is slated for 7:10 at Tropicana Field.
