Rob Refsnyder, James Pazos, Luis Cessa called up

The Yankees have officially called up the hot-hitting Rob Refsnyder from the minors, according to Josh Norris of Baseball America. The team will also bring LHP James Pazos and RHP Luis Cessa to the majors.

The 25-year-old Refsnyder has a line of .293/.348/.398 with two homers and 10 RBI this season in Triple-A while owning a .981 fielding percentage at second base. He has also been speedy on the base-paths, swiping six bases without being caught.

In the last 10 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the utility man is hitting .359 with two home runs. During that span, he has boosted his overall average from .265 to .293, including a pair of three-hit performances. In nine of the 10 games, Refsnyder has managed at least one hit.

Seeing time last season with the big league club, Refsnyder batted .302 with two home runs and five runs batted in.

Refsnyder will give the Yankees a full bench on the offensive side, while Pazos is well rested and allows the team to add another lefty to the bullpen. The bullpen has been used frequently in recent games, and the move provides depth and an effective arm.

Pazos, 25,  is 2-1 on the season with a 2.35 ERA in Triple-A. He has appeared in 12 games on the young season, all in relief.

Last season at the Major League level, Pazos appeared in 11 games with tossing five innings for the Yankees.

Cessa is a 24-year-old pitcher signed by the New York Mets in 2008. This is his first season with the Yankees, and has gone 0-1 with an ERA of 4.18 in the minors this season. A quick stint earlier this year with the club, Cessa pitched two innings while allowing an earned run in relief for his only major league appearance.

The team made corresponding moves to make room, optioning Chad Green and Conor Mullee, who were just recently called up. Phil Coke has been designated for assignment.
