The Yankees have discussed the possibility of having Alex Rodriguez play first base. Well, the talk became reality as Rodriguez took throws and ground balls as a first baseman on the second day of Spring Training.

When the Yankees resigned Chase Headley this offseason, that all but ended the Rodriguez as a third baseman era. At 40 years of age and coming off a season long suspension, Rodriguez is probably better suited as a full time designated hitter. However, with Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman wanting to see the veteran at first base is not a bad thing for both parties. By having Alex try his hand at first base that means the oft-injured Mark Teixeira can get a day off every once in a while. It also gives the Yankees insurance just in case Teixeira does end up getting injured.
With $61 million remaining on his contract, Rodriguez is trying to find a role on this Yankees team. Now that Derek Jeter is gone, all attention will be on the man with the dark past.
