Sherman: Sabathia, Yankees working towards deal

It looks as if CC Sabathia will finish his career in pinstripes.

According to Joel Sherman of the NY Post, the Yankees and Sabathia are working towards a one-year deal worth $8 million.

Sabathia, 38, is coming off a season in which he went 9-7 with a solid 3.65 ERA, and 140 strikeouts in 153 innings pitched. As long as Sabathia’s troublesome right knee remains relatively healthy, the big fella can still get major league outs. He provides depth on the big league club, and solid leadership in the clubhouse, which is extra important on such a young team.

With Sabathia likely in the fold for 2019, Brian Cashman will turn his attention to further bolstering the pitching staff. Patrick Corbin, J.A. Happ, Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, James Paxton and Charlie Morton, among others, have been names linked to the Yankees recently.

For his career, Sabathia is currently four wins from 250, and 14 strikeouts away from 3,000. Sabathia said recently on his podcast with Ryan Ruocco that 2019 will probably be his last year. It appears as if the farewell tour will run through the Bronx.
