Teixeira a Roberto Clemente award nominee

The list of players nominated for the annual Roberto Clemente award was released today with Mark Teixeira being the Yankee representative.

Clemente, whose life tragically ended too soon in a plane crash, exemplified what it was like to be a Major League Baseball player with tremendous charity work, sportsmanship and contribution.

This award goes to the player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team.”

Each team receives one nominee. Teixeira, though out the rest of the season, has been selected as the Yankees nominee. He has had a tremendous rebound year for the Bombers hitting .255 with 31 home runs and 79 runs batted in before injuring his leg.

Last year, both Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies and Paul Konerko of the White Sox won the award. A fan vote combined with votes added by the commissioner, Vera Clemente and a number of former players and media people will select the winner for 2015.
