Just when the Yankees were getting some good news on the injury front, Mark Teixeira was pulled from today’s game at the start of sixth inning with an apparent sore wrist. This comes after Tex had four full days rest and and was reinserted back into the lineup yesterday. Teixeira was 0-for-1 with 3 walks yesterday and 0-for-2 today before being pulled for Brian Roberts at the end of the fifth inning. Teixeira saw his personal doctor on Thursday, who confirmed the wrist inflammation. The soreness at the start of the week was more painful said Teixeira, but by the time he came into the clubhouse on Friday he said his wrist was just sore, something along the lines of what he has been dealing with all season. Manager Joe Girardi has been irritated by the constant questions regarding Tex’s health, but says he has been managing him with caution all season.ย Girardi noticed something with his swing in his last at-bat and asked Teixeira if something was wrong, they talked and the right thing was to pull him from the game. Girardi says he is day-to-day and will probably not be in the lineup tomorrow and Monday. No tests are scheduled, but the hope is this is just a short term issue and rest is all he will need. Teixeira is not even a year removed from his surgery, both he and Yankees were aware going into this season that everyday soreness was to be expected, but when it’s pain, that’s a different story. He was given a cortisone shot after the game, but that’s about all they can do for now.

Something disturbing towards the end of the post game manager’s report. Girardi brought up some bad news regarding Michael Pineda, who was scheduled to throw an extended spring training game tomorrow. Apparently Pineda was playing catch on Friday and after he felt some soreness again in his shoulder and back area, the same place as his original injury. The Yankees flew him up this morning for an MRI and it confirmed right shoulder inflammation. Girardi said they have shutdown Pineda indefinitely. This kind of came out of the blue, word was all week that he was on schedule to throw, and now another setback. Girardi still thinks there is a chance he can come back at some point this season, but at this point nobody knows. No timetable for his return, but he certainly won’t be back this early month as was expected. The Yankees are going to take this very cautiously if they want him back anytime soon.
