It’s happened again. Mark Teixeira has been placed on the disabled list after playing in just 15 games, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN.
Teixeira left Saturday’s game early after he re-aggravated his troublesome right wrist. GM Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi said that Teix would likely need a week of rest before he played again, since an MRI revealed only inflammation – no structural damage. However, the team is playing it safe here – giving Teixeira more time to rest and more time to rehab, but the team has not yet ruled out surgery. Toronto slugger Jose Bautista suffered a similar injury last year, and eventually came back but was shut down days later after re-injuring himself and undergoing season-ending surgery.
RHP Adam Warren is expected to be called up to take Teixeira’s spot, along with OF Zoilo Almonte. Pitcher Chris Bootcheck has been DFA’d. The Yankees face the Dodgers tonight from Yankee Stadium.
Mark Teixeira is going on DL. No surprise. Yankees bringing back RHP Adam Warren. Heard OF Zoilo Almonte could be added too.
