Teixeira out 8-10 weeks

Another one bites the dust.

The list of Yankee injuries seems to be getting longer by the day, as it is being reported that Mark Teixeira will be out 8-10 weeks with an ECU tendon strain in his right wrist. He hurt the wrist swinging a bat in the batting cage during a Team USA pregame warmup. Teixeira will rest completely for four weeks before starting his rehab. The YES Network’s Jack Curry broke the story via twitter.

This represents a major blow to the team not only offensively, but defensively as well. The Yankees have already lost over 100 home runs from last season’s team.

Although Teix’s timetable to return is around early May, there is no guarantee that happens. Wrist injuries are very tricky for hitters – Toronto star Jose Bautista suffered a similar but more severe wrist injury at Yankee Stadium last summer, and was sidelined for the whole season.

General Manager Brian Cashman will now look in camp and outside of camp to fill the void left at first base.
