Tim Tebow’s baseball workout set, 20 teams confirm

Update: August 30

It’s Tim Tebow workout day! As previously confirmed, the Yankees will watch Tebow today in LA, and they won’t be the only NY baseball team there — Jon Heyman reported that the Mets will attend the workout as well. Here’s a breakdown of what the workout will consist of:

  • 60-yard dash
  • Catching fly balls
  • Throwing to bases
  • Two rounds of live batting practice (against pitchers who will not tell him what they’re throwing)

Essentially Tebow is having a Little League try out! This story just keep getting more and more ridiculous. And if you are sick of Tim Tebow, this is just the start. For better or worse he is an extremely public and popular figure in sports culture. As long as he’s doing something athletic, he will get attention.

Update: August 24

It appears the Yankees will in fact be one of the 20 teams sending a scout to watch Tim Tebow run, field, throw, and hit on August 30. Other teams expected to be there are the Dodgers, Red Sox, Brewers, Cardinals, Twins, Rays, Angels and Phillies.

Original: August 23

This is actually going to happen. Tim Tebow, the excommunicated NFL quarterback, is going to try his hand at Major League Baseball. Tebow’s workout is set for August 30 in Los Angeles, and 20 or more MLB organizations will attend.

So far the Dodgers have confirmed they are one of the 20 teams, and CBS radio in Boston is reporting that the Red Sox will also watch Tebow on the 30th. It will be interesting to see who the other teams are — or rather who the 10 are that decide Tebow is not worth their time.

There has been no link between the Yankees and Tebow’s workout, other than former Yankee Gary Sheffield proclaiming Tebow the next Roy Hobbs

If the 29-year old Tebow, who hasn’t played competitive baseball since high school, is signed by a team, he will be the most famous crossover athlete since Michael Jordan rode the bus in the mid-90’s. Everywhere MJ went that summer, the minor league stadiums he played in sold out. I can only assume if Tebow does play it’ll be just as big of an event.

The circus that is Tebow has even reached current big leaguers. Now, as unfunny as this tweet is from ‘SimplyAJ’, it does show that people are probably not going to take him seriously.
