Tyler Austin’s suspension cut to 4 games

Tyler Austin‘s appeal has been heard by Major League Baseball, and his suspension stemming from a benches clearing brawl with the Red Sox earlier this month was reduced from five games to four, according to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network.

Austin will begin the suspension tomorrow as the Yankees travel out west for a seven game road trip against the Angels and Astros. Kelly was suspended for six games and also appealed, but his request was denied.

Austin, who made the team only after Greg Bird went down with another foot injury at the end of spring training, has taken full advantage of the opportunity so far.

Entering play on Thursday, Austin was hitting .305/.379/.661 with five homers and 16 RBI in 16 games. The Yankees will likely use Neil Walker at first until Austin is eligible to come back on May 1 at Houston.
