Wednesday Yankees News and Notes

After the Yankees handily beat the Philadelphia Phillies to avoid being swept, the team optioned two more players to the minors.

Right-handed pitchers Diego Moreno and Branden Pinder were sent down to make room for Stephen Drew who will fill one of their spots. Drew was put on paternity list and missed the past two games. The Yankees also call up infielder Gregorio Petit.

Moreno struggled in his only appearance in his short stint in the Bronx. He gave up two runs in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s blowout win.

Pinder, however, was good in his debut for the Yankees. In nine games started, Pinder gave up only three runs while striking out seven in 10.2 innings.

The Yankees have been going with a two-man bench so you can understand the decision to call up Petit.

The infielder has been up with the big league club early this season. In his first stint in the Bronx, Petit hit .200 in 40 plate appearances before being injured.
