Winter Meetings: Dodgers to acquire Aroldis Chapman

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Dodgers have struck a deal with the Reds to acquire flame-throwing closer Aroldis Chapman. Cincinnati will get two prospects in return. CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the prospects won’t include Corey Seager, Julio Urias or Jose De Leon.

Chapman, 27, is one of the best closers and strikeout artists in the game. He’s saved 30 or more games in each of the past four seasons while striking out 456 in 255.2 IP over that span. Chapman is entering his final year before free agency, and with resident closer Kenley Jansen in a similar position, both players will want to close in order to cash-out on their eventual payday.

With the relief market developing fast, Andrew Miller‘s stock is rising. The package the Reds received should prove to be a blueprint on what kind of players the Yankees would want in return for Miller. The Astros tried to sign Miller last offseason, and still remain interested.
