Yankees acquire Dustin Ackley from Mariners

In the midst of blockbuster deals surrounding the American Leauge East as the trade deadline looms, the Yankees have made a smaller move in acquiring second baseman Dustin Ackley from the Mariners. The Yankees will send over Ramon Flores and Jose Ramirez to Seattle. Ackley was a former 2nd overall pick in the 2009 draft.

The 27-year-old Ackley will become a free agent after this season, spending his entire career up to this point as a member of the Mariners. The lefty batter is hitting .215 this season with six homeruns and 19 runs batted in. He has been used in left-field in addition to playing second base during his time in Seattle, although never finding a true home at either position. It is likely he will be competing with Stephen Drew for playing time at second, and filling in in the outfield if the need arises.

Ackley’sΒ career average is .296 at Yankee Stadium, which is his second best average at any park in the majors during his five year career with at least 45 at-bats at any given stadium.

We will update a corresponding roster move when the team announces one.
