Yankees acquire RHP Luis Gil in exchange for OF Jake Cave

The Yankees announced Friday that they have acquired minor league righty Luis Gil from the Twins in exchange for outfielder Jake Cave.

The 19-year-old Gil made 14 starts in the Dominican Summer League last season, going 0-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 49 strikeouts. In his small sample size of work (30 appearances from 2015-17) he has racked up an impressive 73 Ks in 65 innings.

Cave, who was designated for assignment on March 12, split 2017 between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit a combined .305 with 20 home runs and 56 RBI in 103 games.

The 25-year-old hit .285 with 39 homers and 223 RBI in 599 games over his six years in the Yankees’ organization
