Yankees, Astros among finalists for Edwin Encarnacion

According to Jon Morosi, Edwin Encarnacion‘s agent Paul Kinzer listed the Yankees and Astros as “remaining suitors” in the running for the free-agent slugger’s services.

It’s not clear if they are the only two teams still talking to Encarnacion, as Kinzer told Morosi that he has “multiple offers in hand, with multiple teams still involved.” However, with the Blue Jays and Red Sox reportedly on the outside looking in, Encarnacion very well may be deciding between New York and Houston.

The 33-year-old hit .263/.357/.529 in 2016 with 42 home runs and 127 RBI, both career highs. He would slot in as the Yankees’ everyday DH but is more than capable of playing first base if need be.

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees are waiting on the new collective-bargaining-agreement to be agreed upon before they begin signing free agents. The expectation is a deal will be reached by tonight’s midnight deadline, so expect Brian Cashman and Co. to make some moves in the coming days.
