Yankees Could be the Next Team to Play Down Under

BronxPinstripes Exclusive: Could the New York Yankees be the next team to play in Australia? Looks that way. After the success of this years opening day series played at the SCG between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks, MLB is looking to do it again in four years. According to reports from Australian news sources talks between the Sydney Cricket Grounds Trust (SCG) and the Yankees have been fired up. The head of the SCG trust, chief executive Jamie Barkely is hopeful to get the deal done sometime this season. If it gets done the Yankees could open 2018 season down under.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Yankees started the season overseas. Ten years ago the Yankees and Tampa Bay Devil Rays, as they were known in 2004, played a sold out series in the famed Tokyo Dome. Could be a good move for the Yankees to make this deal happen. This past winter the Yankees signed a young seventeen-year-old Australian right handed pitcher named Brandon Stenhouse, to huge six figure big league deal. The team has said they’ve increased their budget for international talent. But after doing a little research I found that there is already a huge Yankee following in Australia, which doesn’t surprise me, cause we all know the power of the pinstripes is strong all over the world. Possible opponents are rumored to be the Oakland Athletics. Either way, by 2018 it will certainly be a different team, but it will still be the Yankees.
