With Opening Day fast approaching, Joe Girardi has finally made some decisions regarding the 25-man roster for April 4.
The catching competition has come to a close with Austin Romine getting the nod to backup Brian McCann. Romine has had a good spring both at the plate and behind the dish. The 27-year-old has batted .242 with six runs batted in but has gone 3-for-3 in todays game against the Tigers with two more RBIs.

He beat out perennial favorite Gary Sanchez after Sanchez struggled at the plate. Romine then got the best of Carlos Corporan. The right-hander is a career .201 hitter in 77 games in the big leagues.
Girardi also announced that Luis Cessa has made the big league roster out of camp. With the recent injury to Bryan Mitchell, a spot in the bullpen opened up and Cessa will be given the opportunity to crack spring with New York. Cessa was acquired from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for reliever Justin Wilson.Â

Cessa has impressed the Yankees this spring, pitching to a 2.70 ERA in five games. He had 10 strikeouts in 10.0 innings while walking only two.
The Yankees bullpen has recently had some scares with the injury to Mitchell and the wrist injury to Andrew Miller who will see a hand specialist in the near future. Miller says he will be ready for Opening Day.
Cessa could play a key part in the bullpen with Mitchell out for approximately three months.
