Yankees injury updates

Although the Yankees just got swept by the Oakland A’s, a series that culminated in a nerve-wracking 18 inning game, there is some good news on the injury front:

Derek Jeter: The Captain met with his surgeon yesterday and was given the clearance for full baseball activities. Jeter will now begin running, hitting and fielding – basically starting spring training over again. The Yankees hope he can be ready to rejoin the team in about 6 weeks.

Curtis Granderson: Grandy may be back after the all-star break, according to the Newark Star Ledger. He only played in eight games afterreturning from broken forearm before he broke his hand. Manager Joe Girardi said that Francisco Cervelli is ahead of Granderson, so expect Grandy to be back in the second half of July. “Cervi’s ahead of Granderson, and he’s played a lot more than Grandy has, too. So I would expect him back sooner than Grandy,” Girardi said.

Francisco Cervelli: Cervelli, who’s been sidelined since April with a broken hand, played catch and caught a few bullpens, according to the Newark Star Ledger. He’s just trying to strengthen the hand first before he proceeds to swing a bat. It’s unknown yet whether he’ll be back before the all-star break.

Michael Pineda: Pineda will throw a simulated game today rather than make a road start, according to Chad Jennings. He gave up an earned run in 4.1 innings for Tampa earlier in the week. Pineda will make about 5 more rehab starts before the Yankees decide what to do with him.
