Yankees have ‘major press conference’ planned for Monday

It looks as if the Yankees are going to kick off the 2017 winter meetings with a bang. Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports is reporting that there is a ‘major press conference’ scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in Orlando, Florida ahead of the winter meetings, which are being held in Lake Buena Vista.

The presser is undoubtedly to announce the team’s acquisition of reigning NL MVP, and masher of baseballs, Giancarlo Stanton. Heyman reported that the deal will become official once Stanton passes his physical. With the announcement of the press conference, you can pretty much guarantee that the deal is done.

In case you’ve been living under a rock the last 48 hours, the Yankees landed Stanton over the weekend. In return, Miami got second baseman Starlin Castro, minor leaguers Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers, and unloaded all but $30 million of the $295 million owed to Stanton. That $30 million will reportedly come in $3 million installments to help offset luxury tax restrictions each year. The Yankees won’t receive any cash for the next three years, however, because the deal is contingent upon Stanton not opting out in 2020.

Stay tuned for press conference and winter meeting recaps.
