Yankees place Aaron Hicks on the disabled list

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks left last Wednesday’s game in Kansas City during the ninth inning after suffering a hamstring strain to his right leg while trying to leg out a groundball.  He was replaced by Aaron Judge in right field the following inning.

It was later announced Friday evening that Hicks was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Today, the Yankees officially announced that they have placed Hicks on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to September 1 with the injury.

The news isn’t debilitating news for the Yankees who can continue to play Judge in right field, though he has struggled with 35 strikeouts in 65 at-bats in the bigs after today.

Hicks is hitting .213 with seven home-runs, 11 doubles, a triple and 28 RBI in 112 games this season, though he is hit .280 with four home-runs, a dobule and nine RBI in the month of August.  After a brutal start for him in 2016, he has been a good replacement option and has been playing better of late, really hitting his stride with more playing time.

Hicks will be available to return to the Yankees on September 16 against the Red Sox, possibly after playing in a few rehab games first. With expanded rosters as of September 1, the Yankees didn’t need to make a corresponding move.
