Yankees place Holliday on DL, call up Andujar

The Yankees can’t afford to wait for Matt Holliday‘s mystery ailment to go away while playing with a short roster, so they’ve placed him on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to June 25 with what’s being called a viral infection.

In a somewhat aggressive move, the team has challenged and promoted 3B Miguel Andujar to the majors after just eight games at the Triple-A level. While with the Railriders, Andujar went 9-for-27 (.333) with a homer and two RBI in 30 plate appearances. Andujar will make his debut on Wednesday night at DH against Carlos Rodon and the White Sox.

According to mlb.com, Andujar is the ninth ranked Yankees prospect. Overall, the 22-year-old Dominican-native was hitting .312/.346/.491 with eight homers and 54 RBI this year in the minors between Double-A and Triple-A.

Andujar really began to establish himself last year and carried that over into the Arizona Fall League where he hit .284. He’s improved his numbers this season, earning himself a call to the show.

It will be interesting to see what the Yankees do with Andujar if and when Holliday comes back. But for now, along with Tyler Wade, the youth movement continues to be in full swing.
