Yankees recall Branden Pinder, DFA Chris Capuano

As the Yankees continue to shuffle bullpen pieces to ensure that manager Joe Girardi has fresh arms to rely on, the team announced another roster move on Saturday morning, as they have recalled RHP Branden Pinder and designated LHP Chris Capuano for assignment.

Pinder, a 16th round draft pick in the 2011 amateur draft, has split time between the big league club and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 23 appearances in Triple-A, the 26-year-old has posted a 1-3 record with a 2.80 ERA, and in his 16 big league appearances, Pinder is 0-2 with a 3.16 ERA.

As for Capuano, the 2015 season hasn’t been a great one for him. This will be the third time in under a month that the veteran left-hander has been designated for assignment, as he has struggled in his time with the big league club. The 37-year-old has appeared in 17 games this season (with 4 starts), posting an 0-4 record with a 6.55 ERA.

With the Yankees constantly shuffling relief pitchers, it’s likely that Capuano will accept his minor league assignment if he doesn’t get claimed by another major league team. Each time the left-hander has been designated for assignment he has found his way back onto the big league roster so far, so you can expect that Yankee fans haven’t seen Capuano for the last time this season.

The Yankees continue their four game series with the Cleveland Indians this afternoon, as the team looks to at least split the series with their American League Central Division opponent.
