In a bounty of moves made by the Yankees Monday afternoon and evening, the team has announced another change to the roster, releasing relief pitcher Chris Martin. In his two year career in the Majors, Martin has pitched for the Rockies and the Yankees.
The 29-year-old righty was 0-2 for the Yankees during the 2015 season, pitching to a 5.66 ERA in 20 2/3 innings pitched, earning one save. During his career with the two clubs, the six-eight righty has pitched to a 6.19 ERA in 36 1/3 innings.
With free-agency starting November 7th, and the rule five draft soon approaching, the teams are expected to release players to open roster spots for new players. Martin moved up and down from the majors and minors frequently last season, mostly called up by the team when they needed bullpen help due to the bullpen seeing a heavy workload.
Martin was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 18th round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft from Arlington High School in Texas. He then went to college instead of playing in the MLB, entering the draft the next season to be drafted by the Rockies in the 21st round of the 2005 MLB draft from McLennan Community College in Texas.
The Yankees released Martin for the purpose of signing a contract with Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan.
