Yankees seeking Profar for second base

Reports from the New York Post have shown that the Yankees are interested in the Texas Rangers former top prospect Jurickson Profar.

Profar, once regarded as the top prospect in baseball, has been dealing with shoulder injuries the past twoย seasons. He is back playing in the Arizona Fall League but only as a designated hitter as the Rangers are protecting him until Spring Training.

The belief is that the Rangers will likely hold on to Profar until he regains his value and proves that he can stay healthy. The infielder has hit .231 in 94 combined games in 2012 and 2013.

The 22-year-old has been brought up as a shortstop but has also played second base in his career. With second base being a big question mark for the Bronx Bombers, it makes sense to check in with the Rangers regarding Profar. The hope is that the Rangers sell low on the once touted prospect.

Texas general manager Jon Daniels said the team is not looking to trade him but with the hot stove heating up and teams calling, anything can happen.

For the Yankees, they do not have much room for improvement with little money coming off the books and players locked into almost every position. Second base is an area the Yankees can and will look to improve, whether that is in-house with Rob Refsnyder, in free agency with a guy like Ben Zobrist or through the trade market with Profar.

The feeling around the league is that Cashman will once again try to work his magic in the trade market opposed to making a big splash and handing out an enormous contract to one of the top free agents. Ken Davidoff of the New York Post explains here.
