Over his high school career, Rutherford hit .438 with 18 doubles, three triples, eight home-runs, 35 RBI and scored 73 runs.
Rutherford really began to shine in his final two years at Chaminade High. Â During his junior year, Rutherford hit .435 with 14 RBI and four home-runs. Â He added 25 walks in the process. Â In 2015 during his senior season, he hit .577 with 13 doubles, a triple, four home-runs and nine RBI.
He was named an Underclass First Team All American for his efforts, MVP at the 2014 Perfect Game MLK Championship, and played for Team USA’s 18U National Team in 2015 that won gold at the World Cup in Japan.
The Yankees received a high-ceiling player with their selection as he has shown above-average to plus ability thus far. Â He is a solid left-handed hitter with some power, is a good defender, plus speed, but has an average. Â He should play nicely in Yankee Stadium.
The 19-year-old will be heading to the Gulf Coast League to play for the Yankees.
