Yankees to honor 1996 World Championship team

The Yankees just announced that they’ll honor the 1996 World Championship team on Saturday Aug. 13 at Yankee Stadium. Mariano Rivera will get a plaque in Monument Park the following day.

2016 marks the 20th anniversary of that ’96 team, so it makes sense the Yankees would hold a reunion of sorts.Β This was the team that started the mid-90’s dynasty, so it holds a special place in the hearts of Yankees fans.

To close out the weekend, The Sandman will get his plaque in Monument Park. Back in September 2013, the team only retired his number – marking the end of number 42 in MLB.

The team released it’s entire promotional schedule, which can be found here. Tickets for single regular season games will go on sale to the general public at 10 am on Monday Feb. 22.
