Yankees unlikely to make qualifying offers to FA’s

The Yankees are unlikely to make qualifying offers to their three free agents – Chris Capuano, Stephen Drew and Chris Young. The offer is worth $15.8M.

If a team makes a QO to a free agent of theirs and that player declines, the team receives a draft pick should that player sign with a different organization. However, any one of those three guys would accept the offer, considering they wouldn’t get nearly that much money from any other team.

Capuano and Drew have likely seen their last days in pinstripes. Young could potentially return to be the fourth OFer as he’s been the past year and a half, but guys like Slade Heathcott or Mason Williams could fill that role at a much cheaper price tag.
