The Yankees and first round pick Eric Jagielo have agreed to terms on a contract, according to Baseball America’s Jim Callis. Jagielo was selected 26th overall in last week’s first-year player draft.

The Notre Dame product will receive a bonus of $1,839,400, which equals the assigned value given to the 26th overall pick. Completion of the deal is pending a physical.

Jagielo possesses good left-handed power and improving plate discipline. His glove has also improved at third base over this past spring. A Cape Cod League all-star last summer, Jagielo hit 13 homers which ranked second in the circuit. This season with Notre Dame he was named Big East Conference player of the year, putting up a solid .388/.500/.633 batting line with nine homers.

The Yankees hope he continues to make strides both in the field and at the plate as he projects to be the third-baseman of the future. Jagielo is the fifth Fighting Irish player ever drafted in the first round.

The Yankees’ other first-round picks, OF Aaron Judge and LHP Ian Clarkin have yet to sign but the organization remains hopeful they can reach agreements. The deadline to sign draft picks is set for July 12.

The team also came to terms on a $371,300 bonus with fourth-round pick Tyler Wade. Wade is a California HS shortstop with plus-speed, a plus-arm and a line-drive bat.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, each team is given a set dollar amount for bonuses. The Yankees came into the draft working with $7,957,400 to sign their 12 picks. This amount ranks eighth in MLB. The more selections a team has and the earlier it picks, the larger the dollar amount.
