Updated Post: 4:27 p.m. — According to ESPN’s Andrew Marchand, the fan struck by Frazier’s line-drive was a little girl, who was in attendance with her grandparents. She was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with an apparent injury to her face. There are currently no updates on her status.Â
Original Post: 3:58 p.m. — Yankee Stadium was overwhelmed with sadness during the bottom of the fifth inning on Wednesday afternoon, as a line-drive hit by Yankees’ third baseman Todd Frazier struck a young fan seated outside of the protective netting zone along the left-field line.
The game was put on a hold for a few minutes, as Frazier and several other Yankees and Minnesota Twins players were shaken up by what had transpired. On second base, Matt Holliday was wiping away tears, while Frazier was seen in a crouching position, shocked by the scene.
According to Twins’ beat writer Mike Berardino, the child appeared responsive, and was carried out by an older fan. Once the child was removed from the area, a fan in a nearby section gave Frazier a thumb’s up sign.Â
