Alex Rodriguez Has Broken Hand

Yankees third baseman, Alex Rodriguez, could be out 6-8 weeks after suffering a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his left hand. Rodriguez fractured his left hand when he was hit by a pitch from Mariners ace Felix Hernandez Tuesday night.

“It is difficult. Tough break,” Rodriguez said. “I never thought [it would be a] fracture, but it was. It’s a tough blow. Tough blow.”

In 94 games, Rodriguez is batting .276 with 15 home runs and 44 RBI’s.

Joe Girardi said that Eric Chavez and Jayson Nix would split time at third base for the time being.

Ramiro Pena has been called up from Triple-A Scranton to replace A-Rod on the roster.
