Derek Jeter got 2 hits tonight to put him 12 away from 3,000 hits as this home stand begins for the New York Yankees.
Freddy Garcia did not have anything today as he only lasted 1.2 innings. He surrendered 4 runs over his terrible outing tonight. Hector Noesi pitched 6 strong innings with only one damaging home run by David Ortiz.
Jon Lester had a bit of wildness early in the game as he drilled Mark Teixeira in the right knee with a cutter that brought the Yankees All-Star first baseman to the ground in obvious pain. Later Russell Martin was hit in the knee as well as the cutter was going in on the right handed batters.
Jorge Posada, benched originally because he was 0 for 27 vs. left handed pitchers, pinch ran for the injured Teixeira. He got his first two hits off a left handed pitcher and went a total of 3 for 3 tonight.
The Yankees scored 1 off of Jonathan Papelbon in the 9th but Alex Rodriguez struck out as the tying run.
