Jeter to DL?

SI’s Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees are “strongly considering” placing Derek Jeter (calf) on the DL.

As they should be. Jeter suffered a Grade 1 calf strain on Monday night against the Indians and is likely going to need more than a week of rest. The Yankees don’t want to be short a player in National League ballparks when the interleague schedule fires back up this weekend. Jeter, 36, is sitting on 2,994 career hits.
Update: 4:26

The Yankees won’t make a decision about Derek Jeter’s status until he meets with the team doctor around 6 p.m. ET.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jeter admitted that he will need to miss a week, but he is apparently concerned about missing another week for no reason. He’s undoubtedly doing some lobbying right now, so we’ll see if it makes a difference. Either way, look for infielder Ramiro Pena to be added to the active roster.
