Minors Wrap-Up: Four Combine for Scranton’s Shutout

Adam Warren and three relievers pitched a combined shutout against Indianapolis

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Adam Warren started for Scranton, tossing five shutout innings before being pulled. He ultimately would combine with Chase Whitley, Juan Cedeno, and Ryota Igarashi to shut out Indianapolis 4-0. Warren had allowed just five hits and a walk on the day. The win brought Warren’s record on the season to 5-5. Jack Cust (16) and Gustavo Molina (3) both homered for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Cust and Kevin Russo both led the team in hits, with each turning in a 3-for-4 performance.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Mikey O’Brien turned in a good performance today, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs, who came out on top 6-5. O’Brien threw five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. O’Brien also struck out three, but did not factor into the decision. That fell to Michael Dubee, who allowed two runs on three hits in three innings of work. Offensively, Trenton was led by Melky Mesa, who went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. Zoilo Almonte and Yadil Mujica both turned in 2-for-4 performances as well for Trenton.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa’s game was rained out. They’ll play two tomorrow starting at 5:05 PM.

Class A: Charleston Riverdogs
Mason Williams’ 3-for-4 performance powered Charleston to a 7-5 victory. One of the Yankees’ top prospects, Williams came up a triple short of the cycle and scored twice. Gary Sanchez also tacked on a home run, his 13th of the season. Bryan Mitchell’s breakout campaign hit a little bump in the road today, but he was still able to record his fifth victory of the season. Mitchell threw 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out four. The team as a whole went 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position, which went a long way towards the victory.
