AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pulled off a 3-1 victory last night because of a strong pitching performance by D.J. Mitchell, who threw seven innings of one-run baseball. Mitchell allowed just five hits on the day while striking out six. Despite this, he didn’t factor into the decision, as the Yankees would break a 1-1 tie in the 8th inning, giving Jason Bulger his second win of the season.  That tie was broken when Russell Branyan hit an RBI single, making it 3-1 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Corban Joseph also had a big game offensively, going 3-for-3 with three doubles and a run scored.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Adam Miller took the loss as he allowed five runs and eight hits in just four innings of work for Trenton on Tuesday night. He turned it over to Kelvin Perez, who added two more scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 0.76 on the season, and Preston Claiborne, but the damage was already complete. The Thunder tried their best to come back, but ultimately fell 5-4. Luke Murton went 2-for-3 on the day and brought home two runners. Zoilo Almonte added his sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning, the final time that anyone would cross home plate last night.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Game 1: Charleston dropped the first game of a doubleheader in “extra” innings, as Fort Myers won 7-6 in eight innings (Note: Minor League games are seven innings when part of a doubleheader). J.R. Murphy had produced the lone multi-hit game for Tampa, going 2-for-4 with home run. Kyle Roller also hit a first inning two-run home run. Rob Segedin, Jose Mojica, and recently activated Slade Heathcott all contributed an RBI as well. Shane Greene turned in 5.1 innings on the mound, allowing six runs (though only two earned) on seven hits, while recording eight strikeouts. Branden Pinder took the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

Game 2: Tampa came out on top in game two by a score of 6-5, largely due to Tyson Blaser and Ramon Flores. Blaser turned in a 3-for-3 game, including a triple and three RBIs. Ramon Flores put up a monster game in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. He also hit a pair of solo home runs. Jose Ramirez started for Tampa, and threw three innings as he works to build his pitch count back up. Ramirez allowed just one run on two hits while striking out three. Rigoberto Arrebato got the win despite giving up four runs in three innings. Mark Montgomery recorded his 11th save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning for Tampa.

Class-A: Charleston RiverDogs
Charleston won 7-6 in ten innings last night, with Francisco Arcia hitting a walk-off single, scoring Cito Culver. Ali Castillo, who took over for Angelo Gumbs in the top of the fourth, went 3-for-3 on the day and scored a run. Gary Sanchez went hitless for the RiverDogs, but still managed an RBI. He’s now hitting .400 over his last ten games, and it’s fair to wonder just when he’ll be promoted to High-A Tampa. Casey Stevenson demonstrated his ability to do all sorts of things at the plate, with both a home run in the fifth inning, and a bunt single that moved Culver into scoring position in the tenth inning. William Oliver had started for Charleston, giving up four runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Fred Lewis recorded just one out, but it was enough to earn him the win as he moved to 4-1 on the season.
