Playoff Push: Yankees fall to two games back of Rays

The Yankees showed guts last night, especially Hiroki Kuroda, who battled back after a rough first inning, but all was for naught, as a Jarrod Saltalamacchia grand slam in the 7th ended all hopes of another late-inning comeback for the Yanks. The loss dropped the Yankees 2 games behind the Rays for the last Wild Card spot, but with the Rangers pummeling, both spots are now up for grabs. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rangers: 9-8 loss vs A’s. Huge comeback comes up a run short.

Rays: 3-0 win vs Twins. Chris Archer dominant against Twins.

Indians: 3-1 win vs White Sox. 8 pitchers appear for the Indians in their win. Neat.

Yankees: 8-4 loss vs Red Sox. Jarrod Saltalamacchia belts grand slam in 7th to squash Yanks.

Orioles: 5-3 win vs Blue Jays. Chris Davis hits 50th home run to cap comeback.

Royals: 6-3 loss vs Tigers. Bruce Chen underwhelming in critical loss.
