Playoff Push: Yankees gain game on Rangers; 2.5 games back

Last night, the Yankees rallied for 4 runs in the top of the 8th to beat the Blue Jays and secured a huge win. With the win, the Yankees moved to 2.5 games (3 in the loss column) back of the Rangers, who lost again to the Rays,Β for the final Wild Card spot. The Yankees remain 3.5 games behind the Rays for the first Wild Card spot. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rays: 4-3 win vs Rangers in 12 innings. Desmond Jennings goes 3-5, has walk-off single in 12th to win.

Rangers: 4-3 loss vs Rays in 12 innings. Rangers blow lead in 11th, lose in 12.

Indians: 7-2 loss vs Royals. Indians held to five hits vs six Royal pitchers.

Orioles: 5-3 win vs Red Sox in 12 innings. Chris Davis leads O’s to victory with 2 RBI single in 12th.

Yankees: 4-3 win vs Blue Jays. Yankees rally for four runs in the 8th to stun Jays.

Royals: 7-2 win vs Indians. Salvador Perez continues his hot streak, drives in 2 runs in win.
