Playoff Push: Yankees trail Indians by 3 games

Alex Rodriguez’s clutch 7th inning grand slam gave the Yankees a 5-1 lead and an important win. With the Royals beating the Rangers, the Indians moved into the 2nd Wild Card spot with their rain-shortened win over the lowly Astros. The Yankees gained a half-game in the standings, as they are now 3 games out of the final Wild Card spot. Here are how the teams in contention fared yesterday:

Rays: 5-4 win in 18 innings. David DeJesus walk-off single wins marathon game for Rays.

Indians: 2-1 win in 7 innings. Tribe win rain-shortened game.

Rangers: 2-1 loss vs Royals. Rangers can only scrape together 5 hits vs Ervin Santana and co.

Orioles: 5-4 loss vs Rays in 18 innings. Bud Norris, the 10th Orioles pitcher to come to the mound, loses.

Royals: 2-1 win vs Rangers. Ervin Santana is lights out for the Royals in key win.

Yankees: 5-1 win vs Giants. Alex Rodriquez’s 7th inning grand slam propels the Yankees to victory.
